02/05/2015 - New Quests And Expanded Crafting Come To Sorcerer King
Hundreds of New Quests, Expanded Crafting Come To Sorcerer King

- The Sorcerer King himself may hate you, but Stardock is giving players tons of new tools to survive his nefarious schemes -

Plymouth, MI – February 5, 2015 Stardock updated the beta today for its asymmetrical fantasy 4X, Sorcerer King, with a huge list of graphical and gameplay improvements for players to foil the titular evil overlord’s plans with. Hundreds of new quests and interactions give rise to new emergent narratives, the Enchantment system takes crafting to a new level, the Tinkerer sovereign unlocks the full potential of the new and improved crafting system, custom sovereigns allow players to build their ideal avatar, and a slew of graphical updates bring the desperate struggle to stop the Sorcerer King to life.

Sorcerer King is a different kind of 4X game from Stardock, one of the longest-tenured independent studios in the video game industry. There are no evenly matched rivals to race against here; the game itself is out to get you. The evil Sorcerer King is slowly sucking the magic from the world and its inhabitants to fuel his ascension to godhood. You must carve out enough of a kingdom from the wreckage to assemble one last army of heroes and soldiers to storm his dark stronghold in a final deadly challenge to his absolute authority. His evil empire will crush you like a bug if you look like too much of a threat, though, so making your move too early will only doom the world’s last hope for survival.

Enchanting the items your heroes and armies take into battle opens up a new level of customization – and power. Speed up your spellcasters for maximum arcane desolation, give frontline troops vampiric weapons that convert their enemies’ deaths into mana, lend your archers magical accuracy, and more. Mixing and matching across dozens of properties, multiple enchantments per item, and several equipment slots per unit lets players create the perfect army to carry out their strategies.

Sovereign customization gives players even more tools to personalize their quest against the Sorcerer King. Combine your favorite starting hero, spellbook loadout, and unique ability to create an avatar that supports your favored strategies. The addition of the Tinkerer sovereign makes the available pool of attributes that much wider with his special crafting recipes, loot-focused armies, and devastating Dwarf Lord hero.

Stardock has also improved Sorcerer King’s graphics across the board. Improved lighting, additional alien and shattered landscapes, and many new models and animations make the overworld a vastly more diverse and attractive place.
Sorcerer King is now available via Steam Early Access for $39.99 at
http://store.steampowered.com/app/241990/, and is slated for a spring 2015 release. To learn more, please visit http://www.sorcererking.com or join the weekly developer livestream on Wednesdays at 3PM Eastern at http://www.twitch.tv/stardock.

02/04/2015 - Paradox Interactive brings Galactic Inheritors to Steam Early Access
PARADOX INTERACTIVE VETERANS FORM CRISPON GAMES, BRING GALACTIC INHERITORS TO STEAM EARLY ACCESS

Strategy Game Veterans Chris King and Pontus Åberg Rekindle 4X Glory Days with Galactic Inheritors

Montreal, Canada (February 4, 2015) – Indie developer Crispon Games – founded by strategy game veterans Chris King and Pontus Åberg – along with developer and publisher Argonauts Interactive, today announce that 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate) space strategy game Galactic Inheritors will release for Windows PC on Steam's Early Access on February 10, 2015.

Galactic Inheritors is the brainchild of former Paradox Interactive designers and strategy game veterans Chris King and Pontus Åberg. The game is a culmination of over a decade of experience developing award-winning strategy titles and their combined love for science fiction. King and Åberg helped craft fan-loved titles Hearts of Iron, Victoria, Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings during their time at Paradox Interactive. With the foundation of Crispon Games as an independent studio, both King and Åberg aim to create the type of games they're most passionate about, starting with Galactic Inheritors.

“When I left Paradox Interactive, I set out to create the game I always dreamed of making,” said Chris King, co-founder of Crispon Games and lead designer of Galactic Inheritors. “We would sit around, talking about turning certain game ideas into actual games, but some never made it past the idea stage. I very much enjoyed my time at Paradox and am proud of the great games we made there. However, I deeply felt Galactic Inheritors is a game I needed to make, and make outside the constraints of a bigger studio. I knew I would deeply regret not taking the chance to make it happen.”

Galactic Inheritors returns to the roots of classic 4X games, taking the genre to a bold new frontier that offers a strong science fiction mythos grounded in reality, with deep strategy gameplay aimed at hardcore gamers. Players will explore a vast and diverse galaxy as leader of a budding galactic empire, eager to expand their influence and exterminate those that would oppose them.

The colonization of alien worlds allows players to fortify the infrastructure of their empire. Those that oppose can be destroyed by force or subdued through clever manipulation. In Galactic Inheritors, it's up to players to employ masterful strategies, comprised of a wide range of tactical elements, with the ultimate goal of conquering the galaxy by any means necessary.

Chris King and Pontus Åberg of Crispon Games are available for interviews if you would like to speak with them prior to the launch of Galactic Inheritors.

Additional screenshots, an initial trailer, background info about Chris and Pontus, and a more detailed fact sheet are available at

02/03/2015 - OUYA Receives Investment from Alibaba Group
OUYA Receives Investment from Alibaba Group

Deal Accelerates Opportunities for OUYA to Bring Platform and Library of Over 1,000 Games to China

SANTA MONICA - Feb. 3, 2015 - OUYA, the leading open game platform for the television, today announced it received an investment from Alibaba Group. Additionally, OUYA will partner with Alibaba to bring its library of games to Alibaba’s YunOS platform.

“Markets, like China, without the baggage of the U.S. console market, could be the game console leaders in ten years. That's where OUYA wants to be,” said Julie Uhrman, OUYA founder and CEO.

There has been tremendous interest to bring gaming to televisions in China following the Chinese government’s decision to lift its 13-year ban on game consoles. Chinese gamers’ familiarity with downloadable, free-to-play games makes the China market a natural fit for the new wave of digital game consoles – in which OUYA is the leader.

Ouya will work with Alibaba Group to bring Ouya’s wide library of games to China on Alibaba’s Tmall set top box.  Alibaba Group’s Tmall set top box runs YunOS as an operating system and  allows users to shop, watch movies and television shows and play cloud-based games, including Street Fighter 4 and Winning Eleven 2014, on their televisions.

China and other global markets are a focus for OUYA as the company extends its library of 1,000 games and developer base of nearly 40,000. Western developers are keen to bring their games abroad.

The initiative of bringing OUYA’s platform and games to other devices, known as OUYA Everywhere, launched in 2014 when OUYA launched their platform and games library on Madcatz’s M.O.J.O. Micro-Console for Android.

China Renaissance acted as financial advisor to OUYA.
