“Halo: Reach” Noble Map Pack Launches on Xbox LIVE Today
Noble Map Pack launches today.
LONDON - 30 November 2010 – Lock and load, Spartans! The fight for humanity expands to new warfronts today with the launch of the first map pack for the critically acclaimed blockbuster, “Halo: Reach.”

Available today on Xbox LIVE and at select retailers for 800 Microsoft Points, the Noble Map Pack introduces seven new Achievements worth a total of 250 Gamerscore and adds three explosive new environments to the online multiplayer battlefield:
  • Tempest – “Though we may never fully understand these devices, it is not our nature to leave ancient stones unturned.” This abandoned shoreline facility bends both sea and sky to an unnatural purpose, but the ground itself has quickly become another all too familiar battlefield. Though the two opposing symmetrical bases may never reveal their ancient purpose, both now offer makeshift shelter and access to strategic routes perfectly suited for small and large scale skirmishes alike. Tempest supports 8 – 16 players and offers a variety of modes including Free for All, Team Slayer, Team Objective and Big Team Battle. Tempest also provides players with a huge Forge palette, allowing them to create new custom map variants that can be shared with the community-at-large.
  • Anchor 9 – “Orbital dockyards provide rapid refueling and repairs for a variety of UNSC vessels.” Within the confines of this low orbit dry-dock, UNSC craft undergo rapid repair and rearmament in support of the enduring war effort. But for the small squads of infantry who now fight over the mirrored interior hallways and open central hangar bay, this platform no longer provides any safe harbour – whether the close quarters combat is occurring inside or out of its artificial gravitational field. Anchor 9 allows 2-8 players to face off in game variants including Free for All, Team Slayer and Team Objective.

  • Breakpoint – “ONI officials believe the data buried within this artifact is key to our survival.” Atop this icy precipice, the Invasion continues. These modular archaeological labs were never intended to withstand such a large scale onslaught of Covenant military power, but the information being extracted here may prove vital to humanity’s survival. In response to the imminent Covenant threat, UNSC ground and air assets have been deployed to bolster entrenched Spartan countermeasures. This dig site must yield salvation, or it will become a grave. Breakpoint offers multiplayer mayhem for 8-16 players, and supports the Invasion and Big Team Battle game variants.

Take control and Move this holiday with PlayStation®3

From dance steps to back street brawling, there's already a huge line-up of games for the motion-sensitive PlayStation®Move motion controller - which one will move your world?

London, 26th November: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have a move for everybody this holiday season with the PlayStation®Move motion controller for PlayStation®3 (PS3TM). The new controller blends motion control with augmented reality, turning your every move into an action on screen - and turning PS3 into the ultimate gaming system for you and your friends. There's now a stellar line-up of immersive, intuitive and action-packed titles in stores for this new star of gaming - with even more experiences in the pipeline. Whether you fancy a dance to MC Hammer, unleashing a hammer-fist to an opponent's head, cocking the hammer of your Time Crisis pistol... or simply hammering a few nails in a televised DIY extravaganza, PlayStation Move is the tool that lets you do it with accuracy. Here's what to look out for in stores this holiday.

SingStar®Dance (Out Now)

You love to sing the hottest tracks - now, it's time to dance them. Prepare to throw shapes with PlayStation Move as your dance partner, mirroring the choreography you see on the screen as you sing along to three decades' worth of hits from the likes of Blondie and Sir Mix A Lot to Lady Gaga and Soulja Boy. Play as a solo star or throw an on-screen performance party with up to three friends: just choose your track, grab a PlayStation Move motion controller and add a SingStar mic, then follow the lead of the on-screen dancer - if you can. As with the singing, it's a case of the better you dance, the better you score - so it's double the challenge and double the fun.

Sackboy's Prehistoric MovesTM (December 2010)

Travel to the dawn of time with Sackboy and your friends for this very special version of the world's most creative videogame. It's multiplayer only, which means you'll be teaming up with at least one pal to bounce, swing and grapple your way through a prehistoric Craftworld where anything can happen. One of you wields PlayStation Move motion controller to grab and control switches and levers, while up to four more get to join in with DUALSHOCK®3/SIXAXIS wireless controllers to navigate the team across a bubbling volcano, through a Neolithic city and through the very insides of a Tyrannosaurus. This downloadable game has ten levels with new skills to learn, trophies to win, dinosaur heads to jump around on and even the occasional Pterodactyl to toss before the final showdown with the Evil Big Rex - a dinosaur so large, foul-tempered and downright rotten it'll take all your creativity to defeat it.

Heavy RainTM Move Edition (Out Now)

When you combine complete freedom of motion with the knowledge that your smallest move could have dramatic consequences, you get a gaming experience like no other. A killer is on the loose in a grimy, rain-soaked town, and it's down to you to find him before time runs out for his latest victim. Heavy Rain had the critics raving for the immersive, emotional journey that it takes players on; now, you'll get to be even more involved as you employ your every move to battle hoodlums, explore dingy and dangerous locations and look for the truth as the clock ticks away. Featuring a brand-new level - The Taxidermist - developed especially for PlayStation Move, Heavy Rain Move Edition is a blend of gaming, cinema and action where every decision you make has the power to shape events. Make your next move carefully!

TV SuperstarsTM (Out Now)

Work your way from Z-list nobody to A-list fame, fortune and a glittering TV career - all of it from the comfort of your own home, thanks to PlayStation Move. Let PlayStation®Eye capture your likeness, then embark on a whole season's worth of TV-inspired challenges for you, your friends and family to play together. Tackle cookery shows where PlayStation Move becomes your spatula, gameshows where you'll use it to fire paint cannons - even DIY shows where the controller becomes your hammer and saw.  The better you do, the more famous you'll get, which means more glamour, more endorsements and more prime-time appeal. After all of that, you'll be ready for a commercial break - but that doesn't mean letting up; instead, you get to record your own adverts with you and your friends as the stars.

The Shoot TM (Out Now)

Take aim and fire with PlayStation Move's special shooting attachment, a piece of kit that's so fun to use, you'll come to think of it as an extension of your wrist. The Shoot takes the arcade shooter format and transports it to a B-movie lot in the bygone days of Hollywood, where you're the star of the action. Draw a bead on a range of Wild West baddies, hulking robots, or 1950s aliens, with who or what is attacking you depending on which set you're on. Team up with a friend, or go head-to-head at blasting the opposition for points. Shoot fast and firm and you might even catch the eye of the Director - and earn a career as a bona fide action movie star.

Time CrisisTM: Razing StormTM (Out Now)

Duck, shoot, duck, shoot and check immaculate hairstyle - Time Crisis is back! The critically-acclaimed classic of an arcade shooter is now fully compatible with PlayStation Move. Dodge every bullet, duck every missile and blast enemies hard: your team is on the trail of a criminal warlord protected by a mercenary army and it's all down to you. Your PlayStation Move motion controller is capable of becoming a sniper rifle or a rocket launcher that can take down everything around you. Wage war alone in single player story mode, enlist a friend for two-player arcade mode, team up four-player split-screen action or go online for eight-player mayhem. The mission depends on you and your shooting - so more power to your trigger finger!

The FightTM (Out Now)

Grip your PlayStation Move motion controller in a clenched fist and prepare to get down and dirty in this multiplayer fighter with a difference. Instead of bashing buttons to batter your opponent, you'll find yourself on your feet, punching, slapping and occasionally headbutting the air in front of you as the PlayStation Eye turns your every move into damage on your opponent. Incredibly lifelike, with spectacular physics, this is (hopefully) the nearest you'll ever get to participating in a streetfight in a back alley, an abandoned car park or even an empty swimming pool. Practise your jabs, swings and uppercuts on your own before laying down your challenge to an opponent - but if you didn't practise enough and things aren't going your way, you can always slip in an accidental elbow to the chin. There's even in-game money to bet on the outcome of fights - are you ready for backstreet brawling at its dirtiest in The Fight?

And something exciting to look forward to for 2011:

PlayStation®Move HeroesTM (Early 2011)

Ever wondered who might win in a Ratchet vs. Clank battle? Now you can find out. Dive into a futuristic world of classic PlayStation® heroes to become any one of six all-time greats -Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly Cooper or Bentley - then play with or against your pals in a series of high-action challenges with PlayStation Move as your weapon to swing, blast, and fling the occasional sheep from. Pit your weapons and powers against each other in multiplayer mayhem and find out whether a Groovitron trumps a fistful of Dark Eco - or team up as a squad of superheroes for a campaign against a motley crew of bad guys with dubious designs on the universe, collecting power-ups, gadgets and new weapons galore.

It's intuitive, it's immersive, and it gives you complete control over the games you play. PlayStation Move is changing the face of gaming - and it's time you picked one up. To find out more, visit www.eu.playstation.com - and check out the PlayStation Move events space in PlayStation®Home!

THQ's uDraw GameTabletTM for WiiTM Blends Creativity and Technology Like Never Before

Agoura Hills, Calif. - November 23, 2010 - One of the hottest new gifts of the holiday season brings families together like no other, encouraging artistic expression, inspiring untapped creativity and setting the stage for family game nights that blend creativity with technology.

It's the new uDraw GameTablet from THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI), developed exclusively for the Wii™ system from Nintendo and now available at retailers nationwide.

Already among the top-selling Wii titles at online retailer Amazon.com, the uDraw GameTablet- which has a suggested retail price of $69.99, including the uDraw Studio™ game - has been praised by parenting publications, video game writers and holiday gift-guide experts for its innovation, versatility and fun.

"Nothing is more important than fostering creative expression and freedom, and uDraw makes it possible to explore your artistic side through your Wii video game console," said Martin Good, Executive Vice President of THQ's Kids, Family, Casual Games and Global Online Services. "Especially at the holidays, we all want to find affordable gifts that the entire family can enjoy together, which is exactly what the uDraw is designed to be."

THQ created the uDraw GameTablet with the entire family in mind. Designers incorporated such features as tilt and motion-sensing capabilities and a slightly oversized, pressure-sensitive stylus, housing them in a curved, easy-to-hold device that artists of any age can use.

The uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio provides an impressive array of artistic tools.  It offers a virtually unlimited color palette, variety of art canvases, and limitless possibilities - plus the ability to save artwork created on the device to an SD memory card, making it simple to print and share art with friends and family.

BETHESDA SOFTWORKS REVEALS DETAILS FOR FIRST FALLOUT®: NEW VEGASTM DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT
‘Dead Money’ Available December 21st Exclusively on Xbox LIVE
November 18th, 2010 (London, UK) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced that Dead Money, the first downloadable content for Fallout®: New VegasTM, will be available exclusively on Xbox LIVE® for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft beginning December 21st, 2010.

“We’re pleased to give fans a chance to expand their experience in Fallout: New Vegas this December with Dead Money,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “The release of Dead Money illustrates our commitment to creating entertaining add-on content for players to enjoy in already massive games like Fallout: New Vegas.”

As the victim of a raw deal you must work alongside three other captured wastelanders to recover the legendary treasure of the Sierra Madre Casino. In Dead Money, your life hangs in the balance as you face new terrain, foes, and choices. It is up to you how you play your cards in the quest to survive.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - November 17, 2010 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced the availability of two new titles in their best-selling rhythm-based series, DanceDanceRevolution. Making its debut on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, DanceDanceRevolution for the PS3 will have players grooving to the beats with extended full-body movement via Sony's new PlayStation®Move motion controllers. For all the  Wii™ fans, DanceDanceRevolution makes it return to the platform with all new upgrades including a Choreograph Mode, featuring over 50 tracks, ranging from popular hits to original dance music and enhanced multiplayer capabilities.

"For the first time ever, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. is offering consumers two very different DanceDanceRevolution titles in the same month - one that revolutionizes the classic dancing series by utilizing the technological capabilities of the PS3 to its fullest, and another that combines the easy-to-pick-up-and-play mechanics of past DanceDanceRevolution titles but with all new features," said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Both games capture the true essence of DanceDanceRevolution, providing players of all ages the opportunity to get-up-and move with one of the biggest and best interactive dance games in history."

In the PS3 version of DanceDanceRevolution, a new mode has been implemented where users will be able to dance using the DanceDanceRevolution dance mat controller and the PlayStationMove together. Users will be able to have fun using both their upper and lower body as they dance to the indicators displayed on the screen. This allows total freedom of movement on the player's part, with the screen areas allowing users to adopt a comfortable dancing style. As the player holds the PlayStation Move Motion Controller, a ball of light appears on screen and must be pointed at correctly when instructed. The world famous footstep arrows will trail up the screen simultaneously adding new challenges to the game. The PlayStation Move Motion Controller is also used to vary on-screen visuals with combinations of button presses and movement used to add visual effects to the on-screen action. This will create a striking aesthetic interpretation of the player's dances.  Players can also see themselves in action using the PlayStation®Eye and upload their greatest hits to social networking sites via PlayStation 3 XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) menu to share their DanceDanceRevolution skills with friends.

DanceDanceRevolution PS3 also adds new game modes to the series. In Dance Off Mode, up to four players can take turns running through the same dance. The player that is able to keep in step more accurately will earn more points and be crowned the winner. Club Mode is specifically created for die-hard DanceDanceRevolution fans. In this mode, gamers can continuously play over and over again in a marathon session. The difficulty level of the tracks will change along with the dances the players are challenged with as they get further and further into the session.  As an added obstacle, various tricks will also come into play. Gamers will be able to play from four to 20 tracks in succession depending on their skill level.

In the DanceDanceRevolution Wii, players can experience the new Choreograph Mode where the dance mat controller, Wii Remote and Nunchuk™ are used simultaneously to mimic the movements of the characters on-screen. This mode will allow both beginners and experts to take their dancing skill to a new level. The traditional DanceDanceRevolution gameplay has evolved as well including Wii Balance Board™ compatibility where you can work out effectively with your whole body using your waist, hands and legs. A new multi-player mode is implemented where four people can play simultaneously to make dancing in your living room even more fun!

Kinect Hits One-Million Mark in Just 10 Days

Early customer demand for controller-free entertainment solidifies the biggest year in Xbox history.

November 16th, 2010 REDMOND, Washington—Microsoft today announced it has sold one million Kinect for Xbox 360 units worldwide in 10 days and is on pace to hit five million by the end of the year. The announcement comes a week before the biggest selling day of the year, Black Friday, and in the wake of increasing momentum for Xbox 360, which led U.S. video game console sales for the past four months.*

"We are appreciative of the response we have seen from consumers that has culminated in sales of more than one million units in the first 10 days on the market for Kinect for Xbox 360," said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than five million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year."

"There were lines of customers at our stores all over the country on the night of the Kinect launch, and thousands more are trying it for themselves in our stores every day."
-Chris Homeister, Best Buy

Before the Kinect launch, Microsoft raised its worldwide sales forecast from three million to five million sensors sold by year-end. Kinect launched in North America on November 4, followed by Europe on November 10, and will land next in Asia (November 18) and Japan (November 20). By this holiday, controller-free games and entertainment will reach more than 60,000 retailers in 38 countries with up to 17 Kinect games available.

"We have seen tremendous excitement from customers for Kinect for Xbox 360," said Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of the home entertainment group at Best Buy. "There were lines of customers at our stores all over the country on the night of the Kinect launch, and thousands more are trying it for themselves in our stores every day. It's no surprise Microsoft has already surpassed one million units sold, and we expect Kinect to be one of the must-have gifts at Best Buy this holiday."

For Xbox 360 consumers worldwide, Kinect provides a unique and exciting way to access and interact with entertainment. With just the wave of a hand or the sound of a voice, consumers can play games, stream music, watch HD movies and live ESPN sporting events, and engage in video chat.**

Leading Gaming and Social Entertainment Service

Microsoft also recently announced that the more than 25 million Xbox LIVE members have spent more than one billion hours on the service a month, an average of over 40 hours per member. In addition to Xbox 360 console momentum, and the ever-expanding service and content library of Xbox LIVE, Microsoft released franchise games such as  Halo: Reach and  Fable III to hordes of devoted fans this fall, as well as announcing that Xbox 360 will be the first console to launch add-on content for all  Call of Duty games through 2012, helping drive industry software sales. With Xbox 360, Kinect and Xbox LIVE, Microsoft is proving to be a leading gaming and social entertainment service in the living room and the industry this holiday.

Kinect for Xbox 360 is an approachable, simple and affordable experience that the whole family can enjoy. No gadgets, gizmos or additional controllers are required. There are several opportunities for new and current players to literally jump into the action:

DALLAS (November 6, 2010) – MumboJumbo, leading developer and publisher of casual games, today released Unlikely Suspects, a new franchise of hidden-object adventure games that revolutionizes replayability.  With more than 4,000 outcomes, players can sleuth through the whodunit game over and over again to crack new cases.  The PC game launches on major portals today, and the iPad version follows shortly thereafter.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve accomplished in Unlikely Suspects,” said Mark Cottam, CEO of MumboJumbo.  “The game features great characters, challenging plot lines to unravel, and fun hidden object scenes.  Players can unlock a quick play mode that lets them try to crack as many of the 4,000 cases as they want to.”

In Unlikely Suspects, players must collect clues at the crime scene and the victim’s lair to narrow down which cities to search for the criminal.  The player then visits scenes around the globe to try to collect three pieces of solid evidence that point to the weapon and the suspect to receive a warrant.  Once they’ve narrowed down the suspect and the weapon, the player can make an accusation to put the criminal away.  With 16 suspects to track and 16 weapons for the player to eliminate from the possibilities for each case, the game offers myriad of outcomes creating the ultimate in game value.

“Unlikely Suspects looks fantastic on the iPad, and we’re excited to release it in the App Store,” said Cottam.  “This game will make a great addition to the quality line up of iPad Apps that we’ve released this year.”

Unlikely Suspects also features a fun Easter Egg for players to discover, as well as a Detective Training Mode and an Unlimited Hidden Object Mode.

WHA ENTERTAINMENT, INC. ANNOUNCES KICK ASS NEW AND IMPROVED AVAILABLE FOR SONY PLAYSTATION® NETWORK (PSN) NOVEMBER 9TH

Based On The Popular Motion Picture, Downloadable Game Will Introduce Several New Missions, Fights And Enemies To Its Action-Packed Experience

New York, N.Y. November 4th, 2010 - WHA Entertainment, a publisher and developer of entertainment games based on leading IP Franchises, announced today that Kick Ass New And Improved will be available Tuesday, November 9, for the Sony PlayStation Network (PSN). The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and can be downloaded for a low MSRP of $9.99.  The title includes new features, which include a new mission, fights and enemies.

"We are committed to continually updating and improving the game," said Howard Horowitz, Founder and CEO of WHA Entertainment, Inc. "The great thing about today's digital entertainment platforms is the ability for developers to go back and update content for consumers who previously purchased the game as well as new players."

Consumers who have already bought and downloaded the game can visit the PSN store and download Kick Ass New And Improved at no additional cost. Based on the popular comedic superhero fantasy movie, Kick Ass New And Improved introduces several new features that will enhance the action-packed gameplay for the ultimate superhero adventure, including new mission "Frank's Night Club" where players will face new enemies and new fights!  Among other new elements, the new Red Mist Boss fight will feature extra player moves including a double hit spin attack and a toss attack team move for all playable characters.  Additional enhancements throughout the game include AI balancing, sound improvements and improved trophies.

Kick Ass New And Improved is a fully 3D action fighting game set in the third-person perspective, where the player can play and control modern day super heroes based on the storyline of the movie.  Gamers will be able to play as the three primary characters in the film - Kick-Ass, Hit Girl, and Big Daddy. The story-driven game draws heavily from the strengths of the intellectual property; an action combat game where the characters finally grow sick of the crime around them, and decide that they will do something about it.

Featuring multiple environments within New York City, players will be faced with nine story missions including 2 bonus rounds and encounter frantic super hero action as they face petty thugs and powerful mob bosses, eventually bringing down Frank D'Amico.  Players will also have a blast with sub-missions and mini-games, to add even more gameplay to the mix. Staying true to the intellectual property, the game features visceral combat and plenty of gore, as the player's main goal is to bring justice back to the city, no matter what the cost!

Featuring multiplayer local co-op gameplay, Kick-Ass brings an unsurpassed integration of missions given via friend requests from the FACESPACE social networking site. Bonus points also unlock the complete first issue of the Kick Ass comic book.

Video Game Voters Network: Its Election Day, Get Out and Vote!

Video_Game_Voters.gif

The following is a special message from the Video Game Voters Network:

Election Day is finally here, and it's been a very busy year.

We fought back against people who wanted to censor computer and video games. We spoke out in support of lawmakers who defended free speech. We found allies in comic book legend Stan Lee and respected game developers like Warren Spector and Ted Price.

Together, we made a ton of progress, and our voice has been heard near and far. But today, November 2, we have just a few simple words for you:

Go vote.

We are gamers. We are taxpayers. And we are voters.

Too often, video games are blamed for various social ills, and yet what our games give back to the community -- in joy, in jobs, in tax revenues -- is hardly ever appreciated.

Let's make a show of force for lawmakers everywhere and remind them we will still be here tomorrow.

Over and out,

-- VGVN

ESA TO PRESENT ORAL ARGUMENTS BEFORE U.S. SUPREME COURT

webassets/esa.jpg

On Tuesday, November 2, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the state of California will meet before the U.S. Supreme Court to present their opposing arguments in the case of Schwarzenegger v. EMA/ESA. The ESA will argue that a 2005 California statute seeking to regulate the sale and rental of computer and video games is unconstitutional, and lower court rulings striking down the law should be upheld.
