DanceDanceRevolution Classroom Edition steps out
Introducing ‘Exergaming’ – a fun, new way to exercise for schools and fitness centres

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. announces that it will be demonstrating a new classroom edition based on its multi-million selling ‘Exergaming’ series, DanceDanceRevolution, that is suited for classes in places such as schools, community and fitness centres, at the upcoming BETT 2014 Show. BETT is an event that covers learning technology and innovative solutions to inspire and offer tips for primary, secondary, higher education, as well as workplace learning and development environments.

DanceDanceRevolution Classroom Edition is an interactive video game that promotes physical activity via dance and movement. The PC-based system allows for up to 48 wireless dance mat controllers to be linked, whereupon users then have to match a series of onscreen arrows with the correct corresponding icon on the mat.

The system then allows teachers to track vital information such as steps taken, Body Mass Index (BMI), and the calories burned by each user. Each user is also given an individual card that allows them to store their progress and monitor their efforts on an ongoing basis.

KONAMI’s DanceDanceRevolution series has long been recognized by leading researchers and Doctors as an innovate and fun way of promoting a healthy lifestyle and combating obesity, with studies showing that playing DanceDanceRevolution Classroom Edition for 40 minutes is the equivalent to a 5k run. The system – termed ‘Exergaming’ – has enjoyed huge success in the US and Canada, and will be revealed for the first time at this year’s Bett event in London’s EXCEL Venue.

BETT takes place January 22nd-25th, and is the global meeting place for the educational technology community, and KONAMI will be demonstrating DanceDanceRevolution Classroom Edition through the four-day event.

01/23/2014 - 10 Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs
10 New Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs, Including the #CreatorWeekend Selections

Recently, we challenged the GTA Online community to show us their best Races and Deathmatches during our Social Club #CreatorWeekend for a chance at GTA$1M and an exclusive GTA Online license plate. Below please find the Creator Weekend selections, along with five more community-created Jobs that will join the ranks of Rockstar Verified content as part of our continued evolution of GTA Online. Once Jobs are Rockstar Verified, they become available during Freemode sessions for players across both Xbox 360 and PS3.

ROCKSTAR VERIFIED
Twists and Twirls

A complex but beautifully constructed point-to-point through some of Blaine County's iconic countryside. Follow the winding roads of Vinewood Hills as you race from Galileo Observatory through to Tongva Valley. Car selection from the Sports class is key here - steer clear of the Comet's twitchy back end or risk a fishtail festival. Tight turns and unforgiving cliff edges require deft use of the brake pedal, but don't be afraid to go for broke when the opportunity arises.
Stars In Your Eyes

As the description so eloquently explains, this is "a tribute to the legendary track 'Stars in Your Eyes' in GTA IV". Pick the fastest car in the garage for the long straightaways on one of the busiest highways in Los Santos. Although Creator blueeyedbarbi advises that "you might want to turn traffic off if your reactions aren't quick enough", we think it's better to leave them on for a hair-raising drive into oncoming traffic that could leave the asphalt stained red.
Monaco Grand Prix GTA ed.

Another recreation of a famous real-world track, the Monaco Grand Prix GTA ed. contains all the features of Southern Europe's iconic Grand Prix race track: empty urban streets, a seafront setting, high end cars, a tricky hairpin, and two unforgiving chicanes that will slingshot you into the race lead, or through your own windshield.
Casal Dos Ferros Race

A track for the Online racing purist. No novelty factors, no sneaky tricks, no unwelcome distractions - this is raw and unadulterated driving where timing is everything and winning is decided on milliseconds and inches. Use slipstreams to push yourself into the lead and don't look back, particularly as you hurtle towards the water on the final straight down Del Perro Pier... and definitely don't blink.
Classy Construction

Amongst the mansions of Vinewood Hills, a new build is going up bringing downtown construction workers into uptown 'hoods. Tensions arise between these two tribes, and isolated firefights break out across the elevated terrain. High walls and high end cars allow for a variety of maneuvers in this tricky Deathmatch. We recommend taking the sniper rifle to the top of the mansion turrets or seek out the minigun and own the streets.

ROCKSTAR VERIFIED #CREATORWEEKEND SELECTIONS
4 Way Madness

This tight Downtown track is spread over four blocks and built for aerial mayhem. 4 Way Madness forces players to jump cross each others paths through a central airborne death zone, flying through mid-air in four different directions. Creator  gangsterpdp has placed gas tanks beneath the airspace to ensure that any collision results in instant death. Be sure to max out the starting grid, and then wait until the pack thins out for the carnage to begin. So deliciously cruel and marvelously cunning we couldn't help but select gangsterpdp for the GTA$1M as well as an exclusive CRE8R license plate.
Crastenburg Drifting Race

French-Canadian Creator  WoriedNiko recommends turning the rain on to get the full experience from this tight, twisting race constructed across several parking lots near Los Santos International. Barrels and containers have been carefully positioned to create a series of on-a-dime turns and unforgiving chicanes best navigated via finessed tapping of the handbrake to throw out the back end of your ride into a controlled, smooth drift. For designing a race that brilliantly focuses on a specific racing technique, WoriedNiko gets the TOP CRE8R license plate and GTA$1M.  Trés bien!
Laguna Seca Remake

Previously featured on the  Rockstar Newswire as a Job that caught our eye, we gave GTAVDriver a Rockstar Verified stamp of approval this week so that players on both platforms can enjoy this painstakingly detailed recreation of Southern California's famous Laguna Seca raceway. Bookmark it now for long straights and tight 270 degree turns that will challenge all your skills as a driver. The aptly named GTAVDriver also lands himself a NO1CRE8R License Plate and GTA$1M to spend on high end cars to throw around the track.
Paradise Ally

unseenchaos26, recipient of a THECRE8R license plate, warns that the law of the urban jungle reigns supreme in his well-crafted Deathmatch amongst the warehouses  high-walled street alley littered with heavy weapons, heavy armor and multiple entry points force you to keep moving, so campers be warned! The audacious play is to snag an ATV from the perimeter, and charge through the burnt out cars and buses into the central corridor to try and spring a surprise attack. When the coast is clear climb the ladder to the top of the warehouse overlooking the old motel and pick off your respawned enemies from above.
Terry's Hangout

The only #CreatorWeekend selection set outside of Los Santos, eponymous creator  terrynut6969 scoured the Blaine County landscape to find this cluster of buildings set around a small airport hangar.  terrynut6969 has earned his I CRE8 license plate by cleverly splitting the space using wrecked buses that not only fit the derelict environment but create dynamic pathways and cover areas that set up brutal head-to-head showdowns. The added cover allows for surprise attacks using assault shotguns spread throughout the map, while isolated king-of-the-hill skirmishes will decide who owns the coveted positions atop the hangar and the air traffic control tower. Best enjoyed beneath the cold blue desert moonlight.

Please note, in addition to occasionally changing Job names due to taste, copyright or other reasons - we also from time to time will make other small edits to players' Jobs before making them Rockstar Verified. This includes, but is not limited to modifying spawn points, improving checkpoints or increasing/decreasing the amount of weapon picks ups for a particular Job.

01/22/2014 - Classsic Shooter Blast Em comes to PC, MAC and Linux
DidThink you can blink? Think again. Old-school shooter Blast Em! speeds to PC, Mac and Linux. Eye drops not included.

22nd January 2014, London. Veteran game developer Byron Atkinson-Jones today launches his highly anticipated retro-styled shooter Blast Em! from his indie studio Xiotex Studios onto Steam for PC and Mac in collaboration with the publisher Mastertronic.

BLAST EM! is a return to the rock-hard-and-addictive games of the 80s. Take charge of a space ship and battle your way through endless hordes of evil alien robots terror-bent on your destruction while you try desperately to control your automatic blink reflex. Take your eyes off the game and it's time to press the play button again!

Already attracting a lot of attention from its beta release, BLAST EM! came to life after a chance meeting with the journalist Will Freeman in 2013 about a completely different game. Will is a massive fan of the shoot-em-up genre and given the chance will talk about the subject until you lose the will to live. It was after one of these epic chats that the seed of BLAST EM! was sown and over the next two months it germinated into a fully grown game. BLAST EM! had a small experimental release on the developers own website but was then approached by the publisher Mastertronic who really wanted to publish the game.

Taking its cues from an old browser-based shooter of the same name from Xiotex Studios, Atkinson-Jones has crafted an intense new game that never lets up. With one life and an endless stream of unpredictable enemies, obstacles and power-ups to navigate, the non-stop action, frenetic visuals and thumping soundtrack have already got its early testers hooked, having been played over 11,500 times, with some of the testers playing it over 700 times each, some playing it 400 times in just two days.

The game is also intended to help students and aspiring indies learn about development. In addition to releasing the game itself, Xiotex Studios is also making the source code for the project available to buy. Support for the next generation of indies doesn't end there though - he's also sharing updated sales and marketing data daily in order to lift the veil on the challenge of discoverability for indie games developers.

Blast Em! Was designed and developed by Byron Atkinson-Jones, with art from Dugan Jackson and music from Gavin Harrison.

More information about the game can be found at
www.BlastEm-game.com and about the developer at www.xiotex-studios.com. Follow on Twitter at @xiotex.
Blast Em! will be available at:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/257630/
$9.99 for the game but with 25% off in the first week.

$39 for the source code to the game but with 50% off in the first week.

Each of the three Galaxy Run worlds -, Perseus (Deep Space), Drak-Nok (Desert Planet) and Aquarian (Blue World) - will receive three new levels every day.  Players access them via the bonus section that unlocks when the player completes that particular world, which adds hours of play onto the already available 360 levels.

01/21/2014 - Heroes of Stalingrad gets a Release Date
LOCK’N LOAD HEROES OF STALINGRAD GETS A RELEASE DATE

Digital boardgamers celebrate the release of Mark H. Walker’s latest design gem

Arlington, VT, 21st January, 2014 - It’s been a long wait, but it’s almost over. The anticipation started to build before Christmas when the game appeared to be almost complete. Years in development, Mark H. Walker’s Lock’n Load Heroes of Stalingrad is now set to release on February 12th.

The game is the most accurate possible digital representation of Lock’n Load’s engaging and immersive playability, while adding features that would be too fiddly or complicated for a board game.

Two story-driven branching campaigns will take players through a series of tactically challenging missions; first by deciding who to take into battle by carefully spending resources, and then by engaging on the battlefield.

The game is of course designed by Mark H. Walker, and programmed by elements of the team responsible for bringing you Panzer General Online. All the graphics are from some of the best board games artist around. David Julien, Marc Schwanebeck, and Nicolas Eskubi have combined to make soldiers, tanks, and maps that pull you into the conflict and won’t let go.

Check out the
latest screenshots of the game and, if you want to know more about the game, visit the product page.

01/21/2014 - Special Effect's 24 Hour GameBlast Event Helps Disabled Gamer
Ajay's disability is no barrier to SpecialEffect gaming marathon

Ajay is one of the 75 teams and individuals that have already registered to push themselves to their gaming limits to help people with disabilities.

He’s signed up for SpecialEffect’s GameBlast event, where gamers will play hard in marathons lasting up to 24 hours to support the charity, who help people with disabilities to enjoy video games.

The teams will undertake their marathons over the weekend of 21-23 February.

“If it wasn’t for SpecialEffect then many people with disabilities, including myself, wouldn’t be able to play computer games,” said Ajay, who will be playing an FPS for seven hours straight. “They’ve brought fun and inclusion back into many people’s lives.”

Ajay, an IT support analyst, has spinal muscular atrophy and hadn't been able to play since he lost his hand dexterity when was 16 years old.

“I contacted SpecialEffect last year asking them if they could help me to get back gaming again. I had lost the ability to use any type of games controller, but with their assistance and perseverance they found a controller I could use along with voice recognition software.”

Ajay’s fundraising target is £500, and you can support him at Ajay at
http://www.justgiving.com/Ajay-Yadav. There’s a video of him using his gaming setup at  http://www.specialeffect.org.uk/activities/ajay

“It’s going to be a brilliant weekend,” said Mark Saville, the charity’s Communications Officer. “Gamers all over the UK and beyond will be taking part, and it’s a very powerful way of showing that games can be a force for good. We’re blown away by the response.”

The event will form part of the charity’s efforts to raise the £750,000 they require this year to meet demand for their services.
