10/25/2013 - LucasArts Devs present Super Roman Conquest on KickStarter
LucasArts Devs Behind Star Wars: 1313 / SW: First Assault present Super Roman Conquest - A Retro Side-Scrolling RTS Headed to KickStarter

San Francisco, CA – Seacliff Interactive, a new studio formed by two AAA industry veterans with a combined 16 years of experience working at LucasArts, is proud to announce Super Roman Conquest, a 2.5D side-scrolling strategy game set in ancient Rome. Looking for passionate fans hungry for more strategy in their side-scrollers, the title is headed to KickStarter to help the developers fulfill their vision for the game.

Super Roman Conquest is a side-scrolling strategy game that gives players full control of the Roman legions in  real time battles that are played in multiple  3D side-scrolling battle lanes which allow units to be moved within the depths of the landscape. Movement, combat orders, and unique unit abilities are all controlled by the player.  Throughout, the player will be confronted with choices that shape their campaign, ensuring no two games play alike.

Imagine commanding dozens of elite Roman troops into battle against the Barbarian hordes.  You command your archers to hail down a storm of arrows, while sending your legionnaires deeper into the landscape to outflank and surprise the enemy.  After claiming victory, you choose to mercifully grant the surviving barbarians a place among your ranks, boosting your army's strength at the cost of depleted rations. You’ll now need to find a city to plunder to make up for your newest troops. But first it's time to upgrade your veteran legions, purchase new equipment, and chart the next step of your conquest.

The increased ability for unit control allows for literal depth to be added to the side-scrolling genre, with the ability to move units within the depth of the 3D environment on parallel play paths called battle lanes. These battle lanes create additional opportunities for strategy and tactics atypical from the traditional side-scroller. Encounters allow players to use their troops' separate positions along the battle lanes to outmaneuver and attack their enemies in satisfying ways.

While all the battles play out in real time, players will plan and execute their strategies on a grand world map of the Mediterranean. Here, players can recruit new units, upgrade their experienced legions, and plot the route of their conquest. They’ll also have a tactical view of the movements of enemy armies and can exploit that knowledge to their advantage.

Each campaign of Super Roman Conquest will play different due to the addition of important, game altering choices. These choices are completely dynamic and based on the player’s previous actions and encounters. They include options on how to treat defeated enemy commanders, how to manage captured cities, or how to deal with treachery from jealous Senators. Consequences from the player’s decisions will ripple throughout their campaigns.

Also contributing to the team is award winning composer Jesse Harlin. Harlin has been a game composer for over 15 years and was previously music supervisor at LucasArts working on renowned titles such as Star Wars: The Old Republic, Star Wars: Republic Commando, The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, Star Wars: Battlefront II, and many more.

Super Roman Conquest is coming to KickStarter October 21, 2013.
