07/25/2013 - Fish Out of Water Gets New Updates
Fish Out Of Water gets a style treatment

New abilities and pro scoring system added in version 1.1

July 25th, Brisbane, Australia – Halfbrick's newest game Fish Out Of Water today receives its biggest update since launching on the App Store in April. The priority for Halfbrick is learning and getting feedback from its players and dedicated fans, and designing the best updates possible!

With version 1.1, each fish now has two costumes to collect which change the in-game physics and abilities to a massive degree. Using gems, players can unlock items such as the Top Hat for Olympus, which grants him the ability to attract many more Boosties for extra distance. Using the Propellor Cap for the dolphin Finlay gives him the power to actually fly through the sky above the waves! A total of twelve costumes are available and exponentially increase the strategy options across different weather cycles.

The other major addition is the new Pro Scoring system, designed for players to break out of the 1 – 10 range and really heat up the competition. It's a simple yet elegant solution – the Pro Score is calculated simply by multiplying skips by distance. For example, skips of 104 and a distance of 473 will give a Pro score of 49,192. Perfect for nitty gritty contests against friends, with a new Game Center leaderboard added.

Fish Out Of Water version 1.1 is available now on the App Store worldwide!

BE A HERO: MechWarrior Online Developers Honor Five-Year-Old Cancer Victim With Custom Jenner Champion ‘Mech, 100 Percent of Proceeds will be Donated to the Canadian Cancer Society*

“Sarah’s ‘Mech” created for MechWarrior fan Sarah Marie Alida Parries is available now through August 20th

VANCOUVER - JULY 23, 20113 – Today Piranha Games and Infinite Game Publishing honor the passing of one of the youngest and most talented Canadian pilots in the Inner Sphere, five-year-old Sarah Marie Alida Parries. A custom Jenner Class Chassis Champion ‘Mech, “Sarah’s ‘Mech”, is available now (
http://mwomercs.com/sarah) for pilots to purchase for $10 USD through August 20th, with 100 percent of the proceeds (after third-party transaction fees) going to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca.)

The five year old Vancouver native loved piloting the Jenner ‘Mech in MechWarrior Online with her father, Jon Parries. Calling the enemy ‘Mechs “baddies”, she and her father dominated the Inner Sphere on a regular basis in the current Open Beta. Her favorite ‘Mech chassis was the Jenner ‘Mech with streak SRMs, “because she liked to move fast, lock on, and liked using night vision,” according to her father.

“Sarah’s passion for ‘Mechs and her battle with cancer had a profound impact everyone at Piranha,” said Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games. “She was an inspiration with her passion and energy for the game and our hearts and deepest condolences go out to her family. The outpouring of heartfelt sympathy from the MechWarrior community and the support and encouragement we’ve received to develop this unique ‘Mech has been nothing short of incredible. We have the best fans in the world.”

President of Infinite Game Publishing Kelly Zmak said, “Sarah touched the hearts of everyone at IGP. We’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to do something in her honor. Thank you to the Parries for working with us to make this a possibility, and our utmost gratitude to our community for supporting this endeavor.”

Proceeds from the sales of Sarah’s ‘Mech will be kept in a running, real-time rally on
www.mwomercs.com/sarah. Additionally, a dedicated web page where people will be able to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society and to equivalent internationally recognized cancer societies is now live at alongside the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). Click here for more information, screenshots, video of the ‘Mech in action: LINK

Sarah’s ‘Mech is equipped with a Sarah-themed custom exterior design (including an Inner Sphere pony!) Sarah’s ‘Mech also comes loaded with a 10 percent XP Boost. This is the one and only time that MechWarriors around the world can purchase this exclusive Charity ‘Mech and show their support to the ongoing fight against cancer. *One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society, net of applicable Sales Taxes and third-party transaction fees such as credit card and payment processing fees. These fees typically represent less than four percent of the purchase price.

Set in the year 3050 during the early stages of a massive interstellar war, MechWarrior Online puts you in command of the most powerful war machine to ever walk the field of battle, the mighty BattleMech. Pilot your ‘Mech and customize it to suit your preferred battlefield role; upgrade systems, weapons, and armor with endless options giving you creative control over your battle strategy as you face your next opponent.

2014 GAME DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS OPEN NOW THROUGH AUGUST 29

Two Bright Stars of the Indie Game Scene Join the Advisory Board Shaping the Event: Light & Dark Arts’ Christina Coffin and TinyCo’s Chelsea Howe

SAN FRANCISCO - July 22, 2013 – The call for submissions to present lectures, roundtables and panel sessions for the Game Developers Conference® (GDC) 2014 is now open through Thursday, August 29.

Organized by the UBM Tech Game Network, GDC 2014 is the game industry’s most comprehensive and longest running professionals-only event, where game developers converge for a week of learning, networking and inspiration. GDC 2014, the event’s 27th edition, will take place March 17th-21st, 2014 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.

The GDC 2014 advisory board is looking for Main Conference submissions for the Audio, Business, Marketing & Management, Design, Production, Programming and Visual Arts tracks. Session proposals can be submitted via the official GDC website at:
http://www.gdconf.com/conference/c4p/. GDC 2014 Summit submissions will open in early September 2013.

The GDC Main Conference advisory board, which includes game industry notables such as Square Enix’s Julien Merceron, PlayStation 4 lead architect Mark Cerny, Media Molecule’s Siobhan Reddy and Canabalt creator Adam Saltsman, is also very excited to welcome two new members to assist in content planning for the conference.

Christina Coffin, founder of independent game development studio Light & Dark Arts, brings 19 years of experience in the game industry, during which she held programming and technical direction roles with a focus on rendering, optimization, and platform-specific low–level programming. She has worked on a diverse line-up of games, including Ultima Online, Midnight City II & III, Far Cry 2, Assassin’s Creed II, and Battlefield 3. During her time at DICE she developed and optimized the rendering systems for the Frostbite game engine. In 2011, she was awarded the Top Engineer award by the IGDA Women in Gaming Group.

Chelsea Howe, Senior Game Designer at mobile game developer TinyCo, previously
worked at Zynga, designing and analyzing features that touched tens of millions of people. She also held a position at SuperBetter Labs, where she researched positive emotion and social connection to make games more powerful, evocative, and meaningful.

In addition to her role at TinyCo, Howe works with independent game developers such as Funomena and Kimochis. She also runs the San Francisco Global Game Jam and is an instructor at the California College of the Arts. In 2012, Howe received the Microsoft WIG Rising Star award and was named one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business.

“Our continuing goal with the GDC is to be the nexus of game design creativity and innovation, bringing compelling and practical sessions to our attendees,” said Meggan Scavio, General Manager, Game Developers Conference Events. “The additions of the fantastic Christina Coffin and Chelsea Howe to the 2014 advisory board are particularly exciting, as both women bring deep experience designing and programming a wide variety of games, and they will ensure even greater diversity in GDC programming that reflects some of the fastest growing sectors of the industry, like social, mobile, and independent game development.”
