ESA FOUNDATION NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR VIDEO GAME SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Women and Minority Students Encouraged to Apply by May 15

March 21, 2013 – WASHINGTON, DC – The Entertainment Software Association Foundation (ESAF) is currently accepting applications for its 2013-2014 scholarship program. The program is open to women and minority students who are pursuing computer and video game-related degrees at accredited four-year colleges and universities in the U.S.

“Since its inception, ESAF’s scholarship program has supported more than 140 exceptional students, enabling them to realize their academic and professional dreams while contributing to the diversity of the video game industry,” said Jenny Lai, vice president of ESAF, the video game industry’s philanthropic arm. “We are proud to continue providing our industry’s future leaders with the opportunity to gain the skills they need to succeed.”

Established in 2007, ESAF’s scholarship program awards up to 30 annual scholarships of $3,000 each, providing students with an opportunity to study video game-related subjects such as graphic design, computer science, animation, programming, digital entertainment, or software engineering. ESAF typically awards half of its scholarships to high school seniors, and the other half to students currently enrolled in a full-time program.

Research shows that an increasing number of U.S. colleges and universities offer computer and video game-related curriculum to students. Today, 381 American colleges, universities, art and trade schools offer courses, professional certificates, undergraduate or graduate degrees in video game design, development, and programming.

Students interested in applying for the 2013-2014 ESAF scholarship can visit http://www.esafoundation.org/scholarship.asp for additional information and to fill out an application form. Completed applications must be submitted by May 15, 2013. ESAF will announce winners in the fall of 2013

Created by the American entertainment software industry, the ESA Foundation (ESAF) makes a positive difference in the lives of America’s youth by providing scholarships to the next generation of industry innovators and supporting organizations that leverage entertainment software and technology to create educational opportunities. ESAF is primarily supported by proceeds from its signature annual fundraiser, “Nite to Unite – for Kids” and other charitable initiatives in the computer and video game community. DUKE NUKEM 3D: MEGATON EDITION NOW AVAILABLE ON STEAM

Austin, TX – The warlocks of Devolver Digital have partnered with legendary studio 3D Realms and Singapore-based indie developer General Arcade to launch Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition on Steam. The explosive collection includes the seminal first-person shooter Duke Nukem 3D and three wildly themed expansion packs – Duke Caribbean: Life’s a Beach, Duke: Nuclear Winter, and Duke It Out in D.C. – each with polished OpenGL visuals, SteamPlay support for PC and Mac, Steam achievements, and Steam Cloud support.

Duke Nukem 3D originally splashed onto the scene in 1996 with groundbreaking gameplay that blended fast-paced action, unparalleled interactivity, and some of the most memorable quips in gaming history. Video Game Voters Network Reaches 500,000 Members

Gamers Nationwide Advocate for Video Game Creators and Consumers

March 18, 2013 – Washington, DC – More than 500,000 voting-aged video gamers have joined the Video Game Voters Network (VGVN), doubling its membership in the last three years, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced today.

“As the prevalence and influence of computer and video games in our society has grown, so too has the dedicated membership of VGVN,” said Rich Taylor, senior vice president of communications and industry affairs of the ESA, the trade association that represents U.S. computer and video game publishers. “These highly engaged members make their voices heard in government offices across the country, educating officials about video games’ positive impacts and advocating for policy issues affecting game creators and consumers.”

VGVN informs and mobilizes the gamer community on public policy matters affecting the computer and video game industry. Members support legislative efforts that improve the environment for computer and video game artists and consumers, and support policymakers who work to ensure that games receive the same First Amendment protections as books, movies, music, television, and other art forms. The extensive and diverse VGVN network helps gamers take action by contacting officials at every level of government to express their views.

“I am confident that I can speak for the entertainment software community in thanking VGVN members for their staunch commitment to our industry and to preserving the rights of all American video game creators and fans,” Taylor said.

The VGVN is ESA’s online community with a focus on the positive impact that video games have in our society. Through legislative outreach, and interaction with both new media and mainstream media, this network of more than 500,000 individuals is actively promoting the rights of video game creators and consumers. The network is building a groundswell of support for the positive influence video games have on the economy, health and families, artistic expression, education, and everyday life.
